Is It Unprofessional to Talk About Racism at Work?

www.antiracismnewsletter.com

Hello friends,

This could be a very short edition of this newsletter, because the answer to “is it unprofessional to talk about racism at work” is, of course, no.

That question actually wraps up two other questions:

1. Is it unprofessional to talk (on social media for example) about the racism you experience in the workplace or out in the world?

2. Is it unprofessional to talk about the racism you’re experiencing at work within the workplace where you’re experiencing it?

My answer to both questions is still no, but let’s explore this a little.

First, the reason this topic came to mind is because whenever the subject of racism comes up on LinkedIn, the social media platform where I’m most active, there’s usually someone (often but not always a white man) asking belligerently about whether this is Facebook and pushing back against the idea that this is a topic for discussion on a business focused network.
