Those in power like to keep us divided. Black v white, rich v poor, urban v rural, religion 1 v religion 2, conservative v liberal. They know if we became a people united around saving our planet and our species, they would lose that power so they stoke the fire and keep us distracted.
Coincidentally, I watched a video this morning about scientists attempting to explore a comet known as Tempel 1. One of the discoveries was that it contained the amino acid glycine, which is CRUCIAL for life.
Naturally, the scientists speculated that perhaps other such comets crashed into the third rock from the sun, providing it with the ingredients to spawn life. So, not only are all humans more alike than different, everything that lives probably had a cosmic forebear.
Perhaps the human species is virulent. Earth is fighting us like we were the plague. Now, if that's the case, were doomed. However, just as SOME other species adapt and become symbiotic, rather than parasitic, so too can humans adapt to COEXIST in this one host.
This may be a dream. But, if we don't come together, Earth WILL wipe us out and wait for the next comet to bring a gift.
It's a great question, and I don't think this is the whole answer, but a part of it, which is being horrifically illustrated in Gaza & Israel right now. Humans are emotionally-driven, social animals with tribalistic tendencies. When conflict arises, we revert to us v them behavior even when the distinctions make no sense (sports fans are a great example of this). Add this to the deliberate and systemic hierarchies that have been formed to pursue power and satisfy greed, and we can see how hard change is. I really appreciated this enlightened question and hope humanity starts to evolve.
Why Are We Letting Fiction Rule Us?

I think for too many people the fear of trying something different keeps them from even imagining a better way. Let alone actually trying better ways.
Just yes Sharon, totally spot on. Little to add.

"What would happen if our skin colour, gender, sexuality and ability were facts of life and we were able to get our needs met as of right?"
Imagine that!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I think you are spot on. 🙌
