My God, does this resonate. Since the start of the Palestine/Israel war, I've heard people talk about how Palestinians are "inbreeding" which I've loudly denounced. Whenever a black person is shot, it's the "Well, they were no saint" bullshit. In every case, there is NEVER an excuse to kill someone. There is NEVER an excuse to say these people or those people deserve it.
I had a conversation like this with someone. When they dropped that "inbreeding" crap, I warned against believing that stuff. "They're trying to dehumanize them" came out of my mouth, and then I reminded that person that hey, the royal family marries its own cousins so get over the attitude. I got snappy. I get so tired of the Fox News bullshit. And that's exactly where it's coming from.

Conditional empathy is an oxymoron. It’s like when abusers say they “unconditionally love” you. Your love and empathy should never be conditional.
