Hello {{ first name | friends}},
It's almost predictable. As soon as Black History Month rolls round, organisations that don't appear to give a damn the other 11 months of the year suddenly trot out their Black employees or stock photos of Black people to make sure they look relevant. (Of course, in these times, maybe some aren't even bothering with that.) Or maybe they run an event and they put that sole Black employee in the spotlight.
But none of that adds up to true representation because image without action is worthless. What I want to know - and what the people considering working with you want to know - is what's actually happening within the organisation? Because that's where we can tell whether what looks like representation is actually superficial tokenism.
Here's what I look for when assessing an organisation.
