An Update From Sharon - May 2025

News about the newsletter, events, offers, and much more

Hello friends,

April turned out to be a busy month, with podcasts, client work, new offers and all the things. Here's how it played out.

The Newsletter

As you know, every so often I do a writing sprint to keep the SARN content bank full. It's helpful when I don't have any immediate inspiration. Since I had just one piece left from my previous sprint (and that may never get published as it was overtaken by events), I decided it was time for another. I kept my goal slightly more modest this time (I've done a piece a day before) and aimed for 20 pieces by the end of the month. By April 29th I'd drafted 21 pieces, so job done, as they say in the UK.

As part of my sprint, I've written a few pieces based on things white folx have said to me (that are or could be questionable). I plan to publish one or two of those a month over the next few months, and the first will be "I Think of You as White", which came up in a recent podcast I did with Shanti Joy Gold. In May, you can also expect the usual reading list and reboot article, along with new pieces on Black women and compensation, erasure, and a review of Origin. I've got a couple of potential interviews lined up, so may include one if I get the content in time.

The Community

In April, the SHHARE community had our first Un-Book Club. That's where, instead of everyone reading one book, we all read a book of our choice and come together to share the book description, and a key insight for discussion. It was great fun, and we now have a long reading list as a result. We plan to do it again later in the year.

Serendipitously, I've also been having discussions about community with various people, and realised that the combination of intentional multiculturalism, accountability and community meetups and support are part of what makes SHHARE work well. I hope to welcome in a few new people who are already on an anti-racism journey soon.
