An Update From Sharon: June 2025

Reflecting on an unusual - and poignant - month

Hello friends,

May was an unusual month for me. Though nobody probably noticed, I was less online than usual (thank you pre-scheduling) and I did very little work.

Taking Time

That's because I had cataract surgery early in the month and decided to take all the rest I needed. That meant two full weeks off, and a phased return in the last week of the month.

You'll be pleased to know that the op went well, and my distance vision would be envied by a hawk (well, probably not, but you get the idea.) I'm still getting used to seeing myself without glasses and, more importantly, to seeing all the things I didn't realise I was missing.

And, for the first time in my life, I've been able to buy off the shelf reading glasses. Given how much my prescription glasses have cost since I first started wearing them at age 8, I anticipate that this will be a considerable saving.

By the time you read this, I'll be almost into the last week or so of my recovery period, and I expect to be discharged by the surgeon mid-June.

Big thanks go to all who checked in, wished me well, and stepped up. Special thanks to Kelly and Evan who ran the SHHARE community meetups in May. I always say that the community is OUR community and it was great to see that in action.
